Why are people still choosing Plaster of Paris (POP) Ganesh idols when clay idols are a more environmentally friendly option? POP idols can take a long time to dissolve, and certain paints and colours used on idols may contain harmful substances. After immersion, this can affect the water we depend on. What I don’t understand is: why isn’t there stronger awareness and clear guidance from the government about the materials and colours that should be used for Ganesh idols? We have rules and permissions for many aspects of celebrations—but shouldn’t we also focus on the safety of the idol materials and the impact of immersion on our water bodies?
